Could someone advise me how to use this type of file? I'm a little confused how to use it for icons.

*.rar files are archivation files kind of like zip-files and need an "unpacker" to access the content within.
Some of the more common programs like the unpacker included in WinXP and 'Winzip' can't unpack *.rar files.
The most common *.rar archiver is WinRAR, which has a trial version here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
However, there is a free archiver called 7-zip, which will unpack (but not pack) *.rar files for you. Get it here: http://www.7-zip.org/

Rar files are another form of zip files, supposedly that compress the file 8-10% smaller. There are numerous programs to unzip rar files. Just do a search for rar files and go from there, with a little searching you should be able to find a free utility. I use Winrar myself but it's not free after the trial period.

Thanks, aufisch for the link. Been using ZipGenius, but it has no support for .rar whatsoever. And I love FREE stuff!!
